On the road with the Smiling for Smiddy Challenge - 2010/09/05 22:33 Your mpa crew Lisa, Jay and Herman are on the road for the next 8 days supporting the riders on this fantastic challenge. Today is day 2 we have travelled just over 440 kilometres in this time. Doesn't seem like much when you are driving, I can assure you however the riders are feeling every kilometre travelled. We have met some fantastic people along the way, not only extending the hand of friendship but also their own homes. Cancer strikes so many lives and in so many ways this is one way that we don't give it the upper hand. Currently the weather is not the greatest and the riders are travelling through some very heavy rain. Whenever possible I will give updates through the forum so stay tuned and don't forget to send some encouraging messages back.
On another note it is Fathers day and we are all missing our families.

Re:On the road with the Smiling for Smiddy Challenge - 2010/09/20 20:41 What a fantastic week! A great big thank you to Herm and Jay who were on the ride this year as part of the Smiddy Road Crew. For me, it was my 2nd year on the road crew and it was every bit as enjoyable as last year. But before you start thinking this is a holiday, picture this: 4:30am starts EVERY DAY and bedtime often after midnight, making 150 sayos with cheese and tomato for morning tea (liberally sprinkled with salt!), cutting up countless pineapples, apples, bannanas; constructing (there's no other word for it!) 75 sandwiches each day for lunch, filling 5 airpots full of boiling water (hard to do sometimes when there's only 1 jug available!!), making something different for afternoon tea each day to entice cold/hot, sweaty, tired riders for that final burst of energy into the next town, attend to grazes, gravel rash and the results of any other mishap on the ride...including taking 2 riders into the closest hospital for medical attention. Phew! Hard work but still managed to have a lot of fun! Big thanks to Rowan and Mark, the dynamic duo & inspiration behind the Smiling for Smiddy Challenge. What you guys do is awesome! Bring on next year! <To see video footage of the ride check out the mpa home page>
