In Memory of My Beautiful Son Matthew - 2009/04/11 03:15 My beautiful son Matthew died on 13th November 2008 following a 2.5 year battle with melanoma. He had just turned 23 in Westmead hospital.
Matthew was an ordinary young man - he went to school; completed his HSC; worked as an apprentice and 2 weeks before his death he became a tradesman.Yet Matthew was EXTRAORDINARY in how he battled melanoma. He fought with humour, dignity and great courage.
He didn't want to die.
He never once complained about the number of tests and scans; never complained about the 3 hour trips to RPA and North Sydney even though he was in significant pain; Matthew never gave up hope.
I miss you Matthew more than words can say.

Re:In Memory of My Beautiful Son Matthew - 2009/04/13 15:51 Lyn, thank you for your beautiful tribute to Matthew. What an incredible young man he was and how missed he must be. My heart goes out to you - 23 is just too young.
Have you thought about coming to one of our support groups? Even if you don't feel up to it at the moment it may be something to consider down the track...? Having someone to talk to or being around others who share the same experiences as Matthew's may be helpful. Please stay in touch.

Re:In Memory of My Beautiful Son Matthew - 2009/04/14 19:35 Hi Lyn,

My deepest sympathy to you for your devastating loss of your dear son. I have just lost my father to melanoma, which whilst is so difficult, it can not even compare to the loss of a child.

What an amazing man to put up such a brave fight - especially completing his trade whilst so sick.

Strength , love and best wishes, Nicole

Re:In Memory of My Beautiful Son Matthew - 2009/05/26 05:17 To lose 2 such beautiful young men one day after the other is just too tragic and sad for words. Melanoma is the silent killer of too many people - so many of them very young & in the prime of their lives. Lyn & James my heartfelt wishes to you and your families.

Re:In Memory of My Beautiful Son Matthew - 2010/03/02 05:17 Hello James, I live in country NSW so wont be going to any meetings. But this website is great if only to see that we are not alone. I'm so pleased there are active people out there dedicating their time to raising awareness about Melanoma. Kelly Hay-Hartley
