Re:WA member - 2010/06/03 23:38 Adrian, I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well. I hope you have some good news from the onocologists this week.

I hope that things are going well for Tracey, Tim and Lisa.

Yes, Mum had the lymph nodes out last year. Then she had radiation on the area and Prof Millward said that that point there was no systemic treatment for her to have.

No, Prof Millward doesn't say much but it looks like he is one of the best people in Perth to be seeing and has links to clinical trials.

Thanks for the messages of support,
Catherine

Re:WA member - 2010/08/02 18:33 Well I haven't written on here for a while so thought I'd let everyone know how I am going.

I have completed my 4 week course of interferon and although it was a bit tough in the beginning it did seem to get easier to handle as time went on. I think the worst thing in the end was travelling into the city and back every day. I even got used to the canular needle and I normally hate needles.

This afternoon I start the 4 weeks of radiation treatment, oh no to the city and back everyday again.
I will let you how I am progressing with that as time goes on.

Re:WA member - 2010/08/02 20:55 Hi Adrian,
Great to hear of your good progress and that you got through the first stage of your Interferon OK.
Keep the chin up and remember we are all with you on this one
Cheers Mate

Re:WA member - 2011/04/19 06:11 Well it has been quite some time since I was last on here and have been doing ok but it's not all good news. I was nine months into the 11 month course of self injecting interferon when I found a lump in my chest on the left side. I had it tested and guess what.....the melanoma was back, I had a PET scan and found out it is also in my right femur, stomach, right lung and spine.
I had an appointment to meet with Professor Milward at Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth last wednesday to discuss going on the braf trial because I am positive for the gene mutation.
The night before my appointment my legs went wobbly and uncoordinated, I struggled into my appt on wednesday and the doctor then sent me back to Royal Perth Hospital to start radiation straight away because he said something wasn't right.
I had MRI and Xrays done and was admitted to hospital as the tumour in my spine was compressing my spinal cord and causing the problems with my legs, there was also a very real danger that the affected vertabrae could fracture and collapse causing permanent paralysis.
I had surgery on friday to remove part of the tumour from around my spinal cord and put metal plates in the strengthen and support my spine and now sitting in hospital recovering.
Should be starting 5 sessions of radiation treatment on the 27th on my leg and back depending on my recovery and then get into the braf trial.

Re:WA member - 2011/04/26 18:08 Hi Adrian, Thanks for keeping us posted. I'm sorry to hear your melanoma came back but pleased that you're positive for BRAF. That's really good news as it seems to be a treatment (still in its trial phase) that's showing incredibly positive results. Hope your surgery went well and keep posting - I know there are a lot of people out there who will be very interested to hear how it goes.
