Clinical trial information about RG7204 (aka PLX 4032 or RO5185426) is posted on the Roche Clinical Trials Registry (www.roche-trials.com), Plexxikon’s website (www.plexxikon.com) as well as www.clinicaltrials.gov.

Physicians and patients interested in the trials can call the Roche Australia’s Medical Information line on 1800 233 950.  Three clinical trials with RG7204 are currently active for metastatic melanoma in Australia. 

Study NP22657 (BRIM2) is a single arm, Phase II study of previously treated patients with BRAF (V600E) mutation-positive metastatic melanoma. Recruitment was closed in early 2010. 132 patients were enrolled from the U.S. and Australia.

BRIM3 (Study NO25026) is a randomized, Phase III study evaluating RG7204 compared to dacarbazine in previously untreated treated patients with BRAF (V600E) mutation-positive metastatic melanoma (unresectable stage IIIC or stage IV). Recruitment is ongoing, with 680 patients estimated to be enrolled from 12 countries.

Study NP25163 is a randomized, Phase I, multiple dose study to investigate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of RG7204 in previously treated patients with BRAF (V600E) mutation-positive metastatic melanoma (unresectable stage IIIC or stage IV). Recruitment is open, with 55 patients estimated to be enrolled from the U.S. and Australia.

Please note: Questions about medical conditions, treatment options or how to access particular medicines should be discussed with a medical practitioner or other qualified health provider. The only way to enroll in the clinical studies for RG7204 that are open in Australia is through a physician (oncologist) referral to one of the sites listed above.

It might seem odd that diet could play any role in melanoma prevention and treatment - after all melanomas most often result from excessive external exposure to the sun's rays.
