5. HOW CAN THE RISKS OF MELANOMA BE MINIMISED?

Prevention is better than cure. This is particularly true for melanoma.  Although no programme or strategy can ensure that melanoma will be avoided, following the recommendations below will reduce the risk of developing melanoma:

a) Minimise or avoid exposure to the sun and all other sources of Ultraviolet light, natural or artificial and slip, slop, slap when exposed. Certainly do not become sunburnt.

b) Regularly have skin checks with your doctor or local skin cancer clinic and keep an eye out for suspicious moles.

c) Educate your family, especially your children on skin cancer.
